Hello I am totally new to Linux but I got the latest version of Ubuntu Desktop running 20.04. I installed ET on Ubuntu with the help of this topic https://annihil.com/topic/3/how-to-install-wolfenstein-enemy-territory-on-linux

There are 2 major problems and one question I have.

The first problem is that I didn't get Punkbuster to update succesfully, when I copy/paste the following rule "unzip et_linux.zip -d ~/.etwolf/pb" (without the quotes) terminal tells me something like "no such file or directory" but I just downloaded the et_linux file.

Am I doing anything wrong? Sorry, I am totally new to Linux after using Windows systems since like even before Windows 95.

The second problem is the following:

I am using my old desktop PC to run Ubuntu Desktop 20.04 but I use my Philips TV as a monitor because my PC monitor is hooked to my newer PC.

      My old PC specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570k boxed @3,4 ghz
      Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth z77
RAM: some Corsair Vengeance 8 GB DDR3 RAM 1333 mhz
GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 760 -DC2OC-2GD5
      PSU: Corsair CX600 600 Watt
HDD: A very old Western Digital HDD 250 GB, it's a bit slow and noisy but everything works fine.

TV (used as monitor): Philips LED-TV 32PFL5606H/12

The issue: when I start up ET for the first time my system starts loading the game but as soon as the game actually tries to load my TV goes black and gives me a notification "Format Not Supported". I have no clue what to do next so I just reset my PC so it reboots into Ubuntu. I get the black screen everytime, is it because my graphics card drivers are not updated/installed? Installing stuff on Linux is strange/oldfashioned compared to the way it happens on Windows, some may just call me newbie but that is fine because in the world of Linux, I am.

And third, I'd like to use ETH 1.4 archit3ct BETA3 but I have no clue how to compile/use it... can anyone point me into the right direction for all of my questions?

      ~Greetings from a Linux newbie :D

Well I may have some ideas on how to solve your problems but it seems you are very new to linux...
I wouldn't recommend starting by compiling ETH if you don't have any knowledge about that OS, AFAIK eth-1.4-archit3ct-b3 does not compile on Ubuntu 64 bits (libghf which depends on libelf, libbfd and libopcodes will cause you headaches). That is why I started modifying it till it was so different that it eventually became eth-annihilation, which I later ported to Windows since nobody were playing ET on linux anymore, so I haven't touched Linux since 2017, I would have hard time helping you if I'm honest.
That said, eth-1.4-archit3ct-b3 is fairly old and outdated, you wouldn't be able to play on any mods nowadays except etpro and perhaps etpub. If you still really want to do that, look at sETH32nix, eth32nix salvation or resurrection which are the best hacks for raging ever made for ET.

@megvadulthangya It's been a while since I've used linux, I don't remember much about it. I would be amazed if things still compile on the latest ubuntu tbh.
install.md does not help much either...

@megvadulthangya it seems to have compiled successfully.
Can you do tree in your eth32nix-resurrection folder?

@megvadulthangya the compilation failed with errors, so the .so is missing
Can you try an older version of debian (i386)?

@megvadulthangya yeah that's typically why I ceased using eth32nix, it was constantly breaking because of new packages.
I guess it's right: Linux is free, but only if you don't value your time...

@annihil Would you look at that! xD
ubuntu 16.04 compiled but the dependencies is not right need to use the apt-file search commnad to find what to install... but i gues noone run a server with outdated mods, i tryed with noquarter 1.23... jaymod 2.2

Only have the compiled cgamexxx- file but not a single word/readme. You can figure out which ETH / ETH32nix version would be the one working? what to compile to work

@megvadulthangya ah yes that's right it won't be working anywhere except maybe etmain and etpub servers.
Offsets are missing for newer mods, and even with updated offsets, it will sporadically crash if I remember correctly.
But that's fine tho, the point of eth32nix resurrection was to HvH on etpub :)

                                    Copy from EThax_Priv/EThax_Src/EThax_Bin/Configs:
                                    human.cfg
                                    human2.cfg
                                    rage.cfg

Paste it to yours home folder DIR and
now we have avible command in console

ooh maybe not maybe you put together the twoo thing? As i can read the readme....

Dependencies is killing me :D need older distro for this
