The primary method of cutting out sheet metal parts at Bayview Metals, is using a CNC turret punch press machine. It is a highly accurate, cost effective solution to cutting out sheet metal parts using a variety of standard or custom shaped tools.

There are also many forming capabilities that can be done during this part of the manufacturing process.

OUR PROVEN DESIGN TO MANUFACTURE SOLUTION

The process begins at the CAD/CAM design stage. Using up to date seats of Solidworks 3D CAD software, or RADAN CAM and Nesting software for imported customer designs, or parts that are designed in house.

The designs are then flattened and processed in RADAN to machine the patterns in the most productive way, and automatically nest them into sheets to maximize sheet utilization and reduce scrap.

Generated CNC programs are downloaded to our Amada CNC Turret Punch Presses for punching and forming operations.

This translates to reduced cost to our customers, as well as ensures that exactly what was designed in the CAD system, is what the final part will precisely be, with faster turnaround times and delivery date.

What Is CNC Turret Punch Press

A CNC Turret Punch Press is a Computer Numerical Controlled sheet metal fabrication machine that uses various sizes and shapes of tools to cut or punch out the profiles of sheet metal parts. With our huge tooling inventory, they are very fast and versatile machines. These machines can also do forming operations (tapping, countersinking, emboss, knockouts, small bends, lances to name a few) that other CNC cutting technology cannot do. Our Amada machinery has a reputation to be the best in the industry, and have large turrets with 58 stations allowing punching of cuts sized 0.040″ to 4.500″.

How To Program CNC Punching Machine

CNC Punching machines are programmed in a language called G-Code. Over the years, many software CAM packages have evolved to streamline this process. At Bayview Metals, we use Solidworks for our 3D CAD design, and Radan as our CAM software for programming our CNC Punch Press, as well as nesting parts into sheet in the most efficient way possible. Radan uses algorithms to program the machines so that they have the shortest run time, and have maximum sheet utilization to reduce scrap. This allows us to offer the best prices possible from those processes.

Max Thickness CNC Turret Can Machine Punch

Our CNC Turret Punch Presses can punch materials up to 0.250″ thick. We have experience punching materials between 0.010″ and 0.250″, however, the majority of the time, we are running materials between the ranges of 0.030″ and 0.125″ thick.
