How does Custom Metal Fabrication Work?
The custom metal fabrication process begins by customers providing the company with their exact specification for a project, including the type of metal to be used, the measurements of the final product, the number of parts required, and the specified delivery date. Bayview will begin designing the project immediately. Once the design is complete, the company will get your approval before they start manufacturing your custom metal fabrication. All design work, manufacturing and construction are done on-site to ensure the final product meets yorur exact needs. The company’s skilled technicians, along with the latest technologies, provide a high-quality product for their customers. Bayview uses a variety of equipment, including welding machines, CNC punching machines, and CNC laser to ensure a high-quality final product.
What is a CNC Turret Punch Press?
A CNC (computer numerical controlled) Turret Punch Press uses tools of various shapes and sizes to fabricate metal. The tools punch out or cut designs from sheet metal. The company’s tooling inventory ensures these machines are fast and versatile. CNC Turret Punch Press machines can countersink, tap, knockout, emboss, lance and make small bends that other types of CNC machines cannot do. The Amada CNC Turret Punch Press is considered the best in the industry. The machine has large turrets and 58 stations, which allows cuts from 0.040 inches to 4.500 inches to be done.
What Benefits Does Custom Sheet Metal Fabrication Offer?
Custom sheet metal fabrication offers a number of benefits, including:
- Ability to fabricate unique designs in a variety of sizes, including both large and small products.
- Provides quality control, including design shape and dimensional tolerance.
- Cost-effective fabrication process that ensures the final product meets your needs. No further adjustments will need to be made.
- Clients work with a team of skilled metal fabricators which means the client has a say in the entire fabrication process.
- Process is completed fast because clients are allowed to work with a team of custom metal fabricators.
- Enhanced durability and usefulness of metal fabrications. Sheet metal is fabricated to your exact specifications, working conditions, and environment, including vibrations, chemicals, stress, temperature, etc.
- Bayview Metals allows its customers to optimize each design based on their unique requirements, which means each custom sheet metal fabrication will improve a client’s productivity and efficiency.
What is the difference between metal fabrications and metal stamping?
Metal stamping involves using punch presses, dies, and tooling to manufacture a pattern, shape or characteristics needed for a particular part. Metal stamping includes several metal forming operations, including bending, folding, stamping, stretching, and pressing. The stamping process ensures tighter tolerances. Metal stamping is a cost-effective, speedy way to produce large quantities of metal parts.
Conversely, metal fabrication involves cutting, bending, and other assembly processes to manufacture three-dimensional metal parts. Fabrication utilizes specialized equipment, including CNC turret presses, welders, CNC press brakes, and CNC laser cutters. Metal fabrication is more economical for smaller orders. Fabrication provides greater flexibility in design because no tooling is required should a design need alteration.
What is Design for Manufacturability (DFM)?
Design for manufacturability means the sheet metal fabrication team works with the client to ensure the design, resources and manufacturing capability is cost-effective and efficient. The team of metal fabricators will take into consideration the client’s production needs, requirements and quality standards. The team of skilled metal fabricators will ensure:
- Quality testing compliance
- Quality compliance
- Environmental compliance
- Part specifications
- Material type
What is a CNC brake machine?
A CNC brake machine forms bends in sheet metal parts. CNC machines are controlled by software programs, which allows the machine to repeat the design. Furthermore, because the controls (die selection, pressure, back gauge settings, etc.) are done via the machine’s computer all parts will be identical.
How does a press brake work?
Press brakes clamp sheet metal between different dies and punches to ensure the proper bends are made in the material. Back gauges determine bend size. The RAM, dies and punches determine the radius and angles of all bends. CNC brakes allow controllers to make the calculations needed to efficiently and accurately complete the metal fabrication.
